In keeping with Sir Dharma Mittra’s strongly rooted karma yoga tradition, Justine donates the proceeds from her workshops to various charitable organisations, among which have included:  Care Canada, the Yoga for Multiple Sclerosis Calendar fund, the Military Family Resource Centre, and the Ottawa Sexual Assault Support Centre.  By attending her events, you, too, will be contributing to a needy cause.  Please, come and help support your global community…after all, we are all ONE!



Good Friday Maha Sadhana

If you are in pursuit of higher knowledge of yoga and deeper intensity of practice, you owe it to yourself to give Dharma Yoga a try! Modern-day guru to thousands of practitioners worldwide, Sri Dharma Mittra has devoted over 50 years of his life sharing yogic teachings and methods to help us live more conscientiously and contently, and to rid ourselves of habits and patterns that bring about pain and suffering.

Come join us for intensely rich and satisfying experience that encompasses all the primary constituents of yoga, including spiritual reflections, pranayama, subtle body stimulation/purification, asana, deep healing relaxation, and meditation.

We will conclude the gathering with some powerful chants and songs of light and love, that are bound to send you into an even deeper euphoric state!  A local kirtan group, the OMBuds, will lead you in this heart opening kirtan.

Acrobatic Partner Yoga

What better way to embody the spirit of union than through acrobatic partner yoga! Learning to establish trust, developing sensitivity, communicating effectively, and increasing mindfulness all come as a result of this amazing practice. As for the physiological benefits, they are many: limb strengthening, core stability and awareness, improved balance and alignment and coordination, augmented spatial perception, and increased flexibility, to name a few… Come join Justine and Dan for this incredibly fun and addictive exploration of partner-based yoga, and embrace the support and comradeship of your Adi Shesha peers! All are welcome, singles and pairs alike!

Universal Kirtan – Sound Healing, Devotional Expression & Chants

Kirtan is traditionally a devotional form of song, sharing song or mantra with community from a place of sharing unconditional love, devotion – Kirtan is an active form of meditation or prayer

At Awaken, we welcome all walks of life as we recognize the foundational principals that are woven into the fabric of all paths, all traditions.

Thus, our Universal Kirtan is just that. An opportunity to gather in circle, in community and share devotional songs, mantras and prayers – from many different lineages.

Jack & Corey will incorporate free form ecstatic prayer as well as open toning where we may explore the weaving of our voices – the unhindered expression of our being.

Justine will be leading us into some traditional Hindu Mantras – accompanied by her harmonium, sharing beautiful and authentic more traditional Kirtan sounds

There will be opportunities for anybody to share songs, chants or tones that are close to there hearts. We look forward to hearing your voice and the music you share with the community

Extra Drums will be provided, Late lunch will be available after our morning Awareness session, Snacks/Potluck after Kirtan

Yoga with Anjali Om

12.00 – 14.00 :  Posture Clinic –  Focus on Inversions & Arm Balances 

Inversions and arm balances are a highly beneficial and graceful family of postures, but quite often, many people approach them with trepidation.  In this workshop, Anjali will present some drills and tips that are meant to help you develop more ease, confidence and steadiness in practicing asanas such as headstand, forearm stand and handstand.  For intermediate/advanced students, come and step up your game…explore some different entry methods and variations!  Practitioners with any of the following conditions are advised to consult with their doctors if they wish to participate:  high blood pressure, glaucoma, heart conditions, past or current neck, wrist or shoulder injuries.

Cost:  $30 (USD)

14.00 – 15.00 :  Kirtan

Kirtan is a form of Bhakti (devotional) yoga that involves chanting powerful mantras, call and response style.  It is said to be the easiest way to experience divine bliss and to cease the chattering of the mind, and it is a beautiful way to connect with the sangha.  Join us for this exceedingly uplifting and blissful practice as we sing songs of light, love and union!   No experience needed, and please feel free to bring along your friends and families to this joyful gathering. 

Cost:  $15 (USD)

15.00 – 16.00 :  Vegan Potluck

What better way to wrap up the day on a high note, than with food Prasad (offering)?  Let us relax and enjoy each other’s company as we share a vegan meal together. This segment is free of charge; feel free to bring a plant based food item to share.

Peterborough Yoga Festival

Join Rebecca White Raven and Justine for an enticing hour of chanting beautiful bhajans and sacred mantras in the Kirtan tent…one of the many wonderful offerings at this all-day yoga and music outdoor festival!  All proceeds are donated to the local United Way and 1 Global Organisation charitable foundations.

Fundraiser Chant-a-Thon for Bhakti in the Woods Festival 

Location:  Awaken Ottawa Life Center – 1111A Bank Street (Ottawa, ON)

We are very pleased to be bringing back the annual Chant-a-Thon as one of 3 fundraiser events in support of the Bhakti in the Woods Yoga & Music Festival!  Come and experience this amazing devotional practice, that combines powerful mantras, beautiful melodies and love-filled songs to cultivate blissful emotions and promote peace of mind…

You will also have the opportunity to get a taste of some of the local kirtan acts that will be featured at this year’s festival.  Please linger on afterwards to enjoy some social time with the community, along with some nourishing, plant-based food and drink.  A wonderful way to start your long weekend…don’t miss it!

Bhakti in the Woods Yoga & Music Festival

Be sure to mark the dates on your calendar for this phenomenal grassroots festival, which brings together amazing yoga and wellness practices, exquisite sacred music, and the great outdoors, to produce a truly transcendent experience! Justine is deeply honoured and excited to be participating in a higher capacity at this year’s event, and looks forward greatly to connecting with everyone throughout the weekend.  Join her as she takes the main stage with her kirtan group, the OMBuds, on Saturday at 11:00 am, as well as in the workshop tent on Sunday (time to be confirmed), for the Kirtan for Kids (open to everyone…not just the young fry!).  She will also be teaching the yoga portion of a sound healing yoga practice on Saturday during the day.  More details forthcoming shortly, so please stay tuned!
